Lab Bench Power Supply

I love robotics, and I love making some cool projects. But when prototyping, I always run into the issue of powering up my prototyping circuits with a stable and powerful power supply. So I decided to convert a 365W computer power supply into a cool and functionnal lab bench power supply.

First design prototype

At first, I did a lot of research on YouTube and Pinterest to find inspiration for the design and features of my power supply. And here is what I initally came up with.

When I did my research, I found that almost all of the similar projects online were made with 3D-printing. And the designs were really cool, but in Tunisia, 3D-printing is a bit expensive. So I decided to laser-cut the entire project on MDF wood. I made some previous projects using this material and it always turns out to be very beautiful with a nice texture and color.

When it comes to the features, I decided to include :

A variable power output
A 3.3V output
2 5V outputs
2 12V outputs
A PD USB charging module
A Wireless charger
An XT60 charging port
Protection fuses

So I started looking for parts to take measurements and start designing.

Due to the limited choice in electronic parts in Tunisia, I resorted to Aliexpress since it was cheaper and had more components to choose from.

For the variable output, I went with the SK150C module which has a variable power output of 0.5-40V at up to 8A, for a total power output of 150W. And this module also featured a TFT display that could display power graphs. And this module also has a dedicated battery charging mode, which will be used for the XT60 charging port.

Unfortunately, I forgot to order the USB charging module and the wireless charger. And since I had to finish the project ASAP, I decided to ditch them.

After gathering the components, I started working on my first design.

I designed the full encolsure, but lost the files since I destroyed them by working on the next prototype.

As you can see, this design is unfinished. Because when I finished designing the encosuren and got back to the front face to finish designing the engraved patterns, I realized that this design is too big, and that I would have to design brackets to hold the original computer PSU in place.
I soon figured how I could make a more efficiend design. So I ended up ditching this first design.
