Reflecta Mirror V1
Hello everyone, glad to see I caught your attention. My name is Jayden, and I want to make a smart mirror using a Raspberry Pi 4 and use the MagicMirror software. I will completely customize the Mirror to my liking, and will be looking for cool ideas/features to add to the mirror, so make sure to let me know!

Hey! Your project seems to mostly be putting existing electronic modules together, there isn't much that your designing yourself. This is at most a tier 4, and that's if you get your case polished (right now, I don't see any mounting locations at all for any of the electronics). I like the idea, but it needs more polish.

Removed Rasp Pi and cables from full price and BOM
Removed for Hackclub's approval and got a temporary Rasp Pi 4 and Cables for a little bit from my dad's workplace. Also tried running MagicMirror2, but ran into some bugs.

Heya! Sorry we wouldnt be able to fund the pi 4 and the cables you would need to get those yourself, and this is not a tier 1 project

Finished up the Github repository, wiring diagrams, etc
Polished up the repository, completed the wiring diagram and got everything ready for submission. Added the BOM file and more. Fixed some bugs in github such as unopenable files and researched on a few modules as well which I will link to the github soon.

Finished 3D modeling, and upgraded camera module
Finished the 3D model of Reflecta Mirror V1 in OnShape! The assembly includes the wooden frame (24" x
48"), the acrylic mirror panel, my ViewSonic monitor mounted in landscape at the top half of the mirror, the Raspberry Pi 4 mounted behind the acrylic, and the camera module centred at the top of the frame. There is also a hole at the bottom of the frame for cable management. I also managed to find 3D models of the RPi 4 and the new RPi Camera Module 3 and integrated them into the 3D model of my smart mirror.
Also upgraded the camera from the RPi FPC Camera (B) to the Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 for better image quality, autofocus, etc. Switching to this since I also want to use the mirror to take photos from time to time. Sourcing from another store since PiShop is currently out of stock.
The STEP file has been uploaded to the GitHub repo in the /cad folder.

Cost breakdown
Full cost breakdown
- Raspberry Pi Model B 2GB "$75"
- USB-C Power Supply 5.1v (for the Pi) "$12"
- MicroSD 32GB "$18"
- Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable "$7"
- RPi FPC Camera (B) 5MP mini "$26"
Total comes to around $140 CAD, excluding frame, monitor, and mirror, etc., as I am not sure if Hackclub can cover that.

Started working on materials
I bought an old monitor for around $40. It's 12" x 20" overall, with bezels, but the display is 10.7" x 18.7". Smaller than expected, but I have to work with what I have, as Blueprint is sadly ending at the end of the month, leaving me a crisp 10 days to get the project done. I have also decided on buying an acrylic sheet and adding one-way/two-way mirror film (confusing because they're the same thing) as it's cost-effective and less risky to work with. Also did end up looking into materials for the frame and researching similar projects to get inspiration and have a decent idea of how the assembly is going to go. Also planned on adding a camera module to the mirror, for photos or even cool hand tracking!

The Main Plan!
Figured out how it's going to go, and what materials I'll be using for this project.
Materials:
- Display (Large monitor/ Small TV)
- One-way mirror/ mirror film (One-way mirror is better, but far more expensive and risky to work with)
- Raspberry Pi 4
- Frame
- Optional: IR Frame (touchscreen capability!), led strip, camera!
Base Plan:
- Create a frame to hold the monitor and all the other components.
- Download MagicMirror onto the Raspberry Pi and research on modules and features
- Take apart the display and remove the backplate, bezels, etc
- Put the one-way mirror/ film (reflective side first) into the frame first, the display second, and the rest last.
- Secure everything in place and tidy up wires
- Close it up, and make sure to have an easy way to access the internals just in case
- Should be ready!
