nice project! can you please use global standard direct line for the shipping? should be $1.50 for first-time purchases. really nice renders!!

As said before, this project cannot qualify for tier four. Please either revise your BOM, or pay the balance out of pocket. In addition, your LCSC cart picture does not show the full component list and their prices.

NFC, Reduced Price, and Blender

Changed the shipping to GSDL to reduce the price and I also wanted to add a bit more complexity so I included NFC. As this field interested me after making a hacker card, I wanted to learn more about the technology so I read about how I could make my own NFC antenna and read through this datasheet:

image

Also takign a look into ST's antenna design software, I put in the 25x48mm antenna and found out it's inductance and then made one of my own that's smaller (uses smaller traces) and also one that would fit onto the ruler:

(my own antenna)

Then all that was left was to add in the NFC circuit and wire up the LED

(removed the hole that was there)

To make things cheaper, I want to learn how to solder small components on my own (without stencil lol) so I ordered the parts separately through LCSC and can combine the shipping to save costs as stated here

I then added the 3D model into blender, added in some lights and rendered it

This is a cool project, but this will sadly only qualify for tier five. There isn't much hardware complexity in this.

Finished PCB and Organized Schematic

I then added the IC's on the back and then organized them:

After a while I finally finished the PCB

image

Added AWG holes, Trace width, some more silkscreen art/references from other PCB Rulers and also some useful conversions on the back.

Then I went back and organized the schematic and marked the fields as DNP:

Organizing Components

image

I want this to be kinda compact so I'm trying to organize the components as neatly as possible lol.

image

Finally finished up the capacitor section and went back and added more resistors:

image

I then finished the front side by adding inductors and diodes/general components:

I still have to add in the IC's on the back

Started adding silkscreen

I started working on finishing the protractor
image

but then I got distracted and wanted to finish the metric side

image

Had to go into figma and manually add the 10* and 5* angles

image

Worked on it a buit more and am starting to organize the components together:

PCB layout

image

I then started working on the layout of the PCB, I wanted it to be 250mmx25mm originally but later changed it to 310x35mm.

I also researched some more and added more components in different footprints.

image

and after organizing it a bit I'm working on making the protractor

Started the schematic

I was looking through some reddit posts and found that someone had a cool looking PCB ruler and I decided to make my own (to take a break from other thought intensive projects) and yea...

I started by researching the most common footprints and packages to include in the PCB and also a list of stuff that I plan on adding:

  • AWG Guage / Via hole size
  • Trace Thickness
  • Ruler with in/mm (duh)
  • Protractor
  • Silkscreen with MOSFET channel types
  • Silkscreen with formulas
  • Silkscreen with Smith Chart :skull:
