Design process
So originally I was planning on making a stand(picture 1) with holes for attachments like wings(picture 2 reference). But after realizing the attachments and practicality of the wings holding up the stand isn’t the best. I decided for a basic aesthetic focusing on the stand(refer to first journal picture) Using that but not copying the entire contraption, I had to figure out how to have the adjustable stand. There is two methods, using a pin insert into a hole and just having it already built in and the having supports to make it easy to remove so it can be printed in one time. For the ease of creation and assembly to minimize error, I decided for a pin insert to make sure that the supports don’t accidentally glue to the main structure rendering the entire print unusable. Designing it, was mainly a reference to the first journal picture. Since it’s hard to figure out how the print would fit with the phone, I had to sort of guesstimate the space for the phone to rest on the base and still be held up without being too low. In the assembly, I made a mimic of my phone to see if it would fit. Due to complications of the mates, there were issues attaching the phone but it does fit. So there is some leeway that it works, without a 3D printed prototype it’s hard to figure out whether the adjustment work. But from previous experience it should work after some forceful to loosen the pins to the pieces. In later adjustments there could be made holes for attachments for aesthetics.

Design process
There were challenges to find the angle of the stand. It would’ve been easy if it’s just a little triangle. To make it adjustable, there is some consideration for the shape and how long the base is in consideration to the backbone in order to have enough space to hold the phone while being able to stand on its own.

Designed the phone stand
After following the inspiration, I was to decide whether to have the adjustments using a pin inserts or prebuild and to have supports to then be snapped for one whole print. I decided to split the process to ease printing process and actual CADing. After many adjustments, I slowly made the base and then followed along the process of making the design of the triangle base to hold the phone.

Research the design
I originally wanted to make wings for the phone stand but then, after realizing the odd shapes in comparison to the stand, I decided for a phone stand like the ones in stores. I had to decide on a hard design or the adjustable designs which after finding inspiration, the adjustable one was more versatile compared to the more set stands.
