GG Battle Robot

This is my custom Robot Wars inspired battle robot with a servo-driven axe weapon, wireless radio frequency remote control with a custom PCB, LCD display, RGB lights, and audio sound effects. The main microcontrollers are raspberry pi picos and the chassis, axe and remote case will be 3d printed in PLA

Remote PCB re-routing

Next, I went through my remote PCB and got rid of any 90 degree bends in the routing and changed them to 45 degrees ones to improve signal integrity and to ensure my remote runs smoothly

Remote case in CAD

I have a few things I need to change with my robot design. This first thing was that I needed to design a simple case in CAD for my remote that has small pins that secure the PCB into place via the drill holes

PCB design process update

Added lots of more detail on the process behind designing the remote PCB for my robot. I talked about some issues I ran into as well as some design choices I made.

thanks for updating the cart photos! you still dont have much journaling on the process behind designing the pcb, please add some more info! we should be able to see your whole process, including issues you ran into. make sure to check out https://blueprint.hackclub.com/about/submission-guidelines to make sure your project is good to go!

:pf: their feedback was:

This is a super cool project! However, we cannot provide funding for filament and you can also get the Raspberry Pi Pico from aliexpress to save costs.

Design re-review submission

I sorted out my components, uploaded all of the cart screenshots to github & updated my BOM with my final amount.

image

I also designed and finished my PCB for the remote, exported the gerber files & got a quote on JLCBPCB and uploaded the files & cart screenshot

I believe I'm ready for re-submission

Hi, we need cart screenshots from where you're planning to buy your parts. Additionally, you mention "PCB costs" in your BOM but do not have a PCB as far as I can see. Finally, please set your grant amount equal to your final BOM amount, thanks!

Importing components

I imported 3D models of the electronic components into Fusion 360 so I can fully visualise their placements, applied textures to my robot and updated my github

Chassis design

I finished designing my robot chassis for 3D printing - took many iterations. I ended up with a single servo-driven axe weapon that rests on the slanted part of the chassis and swings forwards on command.

I made holes in the base for the speaker audio, small indents for magnets so I can connect the bottom & top halves, and added text to the chassis for some extra personalisation.

Planned out where the components will go in the robot

I did a sketch of the setup for my custom battle robot project with the hardware placement. For example what will go on the breadboard, what battery devices I will need to power my components & what motor drivers I will need for my TT motors
