Segment Display

A 7 segment display, is arranged to give 128(32x4) or 896pixels. Each display using it own modules. All with using ESP c3 wroom.. with the input of 5v and 3A. This project was just started by a small curiosity.

In your JLC screenshots, your total cart price is 77.85, which is not representative of the $29 PCB picture I see. Please post the full cart in the final checkout stage (including PCB + PCBA.) In addition this is a max of a tier three. I barely see any effort in trying to improve your design from previous advice. Please refer to this reddit post on how to optimize your BOM, and how to connect multiple segments to one IC. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectronics/comments/1hvt2c7/is_this_the_correct_way_to_wire_multiple_7segment/

Hey I'm ridicously confused on how you are going to assemble the PCB? If you are going to solder everything, get a stencil on JLCPCB and source the parts from LCSC. If you are going to use PCBA, please put that in your cart!

Bom Updated

Fixed some of the issue that where causing trouble to ship this project.. I wasnt sure about where the parts I buy from.. now at final I am buying all stuff from JLCPCB itself.. updated by bom rigrig

Hey Joel, I'm a bit confused because your screenshots add up to $45, but your BOM/amount you're asking doesn't reflect this. Could you please update your BOM or the screenshots with the proper price?

Your bom needs to be in .csv format, not .pdf

Shipping of the pcb and components isn't accounted for. Could you update the price and include the shipping in the screenshots? Also, your bom doesn't include the pcb price

Doesn't show the full cart with prices, nor does it show the final price. Please reupload the correct, full pictures please!

New changes

I have recently new stuff and removed some of the modules.. since one module can able to power 8 digits. To make sure everything is fine.. I uploaded the finished project to GitHub repo. Schematic_Segment-Display_2025-10-26

Design can be optimized for a lower cost, you don't need one module per segment display. In addition can you write a bit about why you made the project in your readme? https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/max7219-max7221.pdf Check PG. 13

Finished GitHub Repo

I finished uploading every file related to my project the PCB, schematic, and all the required documents to my Github repository. It feels really good to see everything finally complete.

I designed and managed the whole project using my mobile phone through EasyEDA and GitHub. It took a lot of patience, but I learned so much along the way about PCB design, coScreenshot_20251023-223518.Instagram.png
nnections, and components.

Success

After a few hours of grinding I finally managed to get rid from the error now 85% of the project is finished. This will be able to power with 5v plus regulating to 3.3v for espScreenshot_20251022-124512.Chrome.jpg

Routing

After designing the whole pcb I tried auto route. But it barely worked like i got 2300 sucess and 200 failed routes.. so I had to route the rest manually.. then I saw that the usb I'm using is not able to connect the GND and VBUS pin to the component.. I am so frustrated.Screenshot_20251021-190645.Chrome.jpg

Designing PCB

And finally I finished the schematic design... Ahm.. that was rough now next is to design the pcb.. and it is the hardest thing in this project.. like there are 32 display with modules and other components each.. this project will be the longest and toughest thing I'll ever made.. to note that the order of display are all mixed..PCB_PCB_Segment-Display_2025-10-20 (2)~2.jpg

Addition of Power Supply

Im pretty sure that I'm cooking well.. right now I don't even understand what I just made.. like, look it yourself. So many wire and stuff. I spent like half n hour only to find the mistake.(Ngl Found few mistake) I also added the C-Type with the regulator for the power Segment Display (1)_page-0001 (1)~3.jpg

Addition of more Displays

I recently added 16 more Displays and had layout. every single displays has its own module. Now there are 4 rows and 8 columes of display.. I connect the DIN pin of MAX1 module to DOUT pin of MAX2 and continued the rest till the 32th module.. it is now all controlled by one ESP32 C3 wroom..Segment Display_page-0001~3.jpg

Order Correction

At first all was going well then suddenly I found out that each display should have its own max module.. earlier I connected those display 8 - display in one module.. and that was the mistake. I had to change all the things I had done earlier. After going though straight work I finally corrected and had some progress..Segment Display (2)_page-0001~2.jpg

Display Connection Setup

I finally reached the wiring stage for my 4digit display, and things are starting to feel more real now.after replacing the previous individual 7-segment units with the new SEG-THx4 module, I noticed that it had pins labeled G1 G2 G3 G4 but no VCC. After some research I found out that it doesn't require vcc at all..Segment Display (1)_page-0001~2.jpg

Routing and Alignments

Today was all about working on my big 7-segment display project, and honestly, it was a little intense but fun. I'm trying to make a giant vertical display with 8 modules, and each module has a number of points. At first, I felt a little overwhelmed by all the pins and sections, but once I broke it down step by step, it started to make sense.
