Axiom-2

This is my first project related to CNC. I want to learn more about CNC and this project is a hopefully a good start for me. Inspired by the AxiDraw Writing and drawing machine.

I forget to mention these as well

  • the reason I don't have duino.lk cart screenshots is because I have selected out of stock parts. I contacted them and they said they'll restock in a week or so. In their website you could not add something to a cart if its not in stock. So I couldn't get a screen shot of it

  • i forgot to add the delivery options on JLCPCB. The lowest is E-POST (attached below)

It might look like the Easy Draw bot. I never knew the easy draw bot had 3d files open for download. I just looked them on Youtube and recreated from what i saw. Now it looks really similar. I though to make on one like that. Now it looks like I stole/copied the 3D files. I already spent alot of time recreating them on Blender. You can see I journal everything regarding designing it. Time is running out and I dont have time to remake. But for reviewers notice- I never fully copies anything , i created every 3d parts from scratch with help using Youtube, I have added more functionality for uniqueness if you want to

I have fully completed the BOM and found the missing parts on Temu. The nuts and washers are locally bought. I wont be included them in the readme. but have them in the BOM.

I also submitted $150 as required grant. Now I need about $190.

Assembling the case on Full Assembly

I have already made the case for the controller now we have to find a way to mount it. For now Im planning on mounting it on top of the UNO Shield Enclosure so it will be easy to run wires from the controller to the shield.

Making the 3D Design for the Controller

To house the controller , I have made a small enclosure that will mount just over the UNO enclosure. It is not much of big design but it will work. Im not sure on how to mount it yet but we'll see

Making a separate controller board | Schematics and PCB

Now we are going to make a separate controller board where It houses a OLED Display for showing details, tactile buttons to stop / start / resume. Also added some underglow for fun.

Uploaded the BOM V1

I haven't found everything yet. Most of the items are from duino.lk. I have made a basic BOM with the stuff I found. I have to source another few parts. But Now I have pushed the v1 to github.

Preparing the GitHub Repo v1

Everything is almost finished. I have to mostly prepare the firmware. Which is the basic GBRL firmware. I also have to organize some files for better looks. And a BOM too. But lets prepare the Github Repo for now.

Published the /Hardware Files.

Final 3D Assembly??

I have completed the full 3D Assembly. I did some color changings. This wont how it will be printed. Its just like how it looks. In my opinion it looks very good.

3D Assembling P2

The 3D assembly is almost finished. Placing everything is done. Next thing is adding the screws and stuff to visualize. (idk abt the ribbon it might be hard)

3D Assembling P1

Before Continuing Im going to be assembling everything on Blender For size check and other measurement issues. This would help with accuracy and also have a prediction on how it looks. This is my progress now. The colors are just for visualization. Will change later. (the black cyclinder lookings are metal rods and the white parts in the Background are rest of the parts that needs to be assembled)

Quick Piece

I almost forget to make the base mount for the CNC enclosure and stuff. I just duplicated the mount and modify it accordingly to make it work. It will work as the second mount to the enclosure.

Making more pieces

[Hour 1]
I have made the base slider and the slider part for the pen holder. I have designed parts like this before so it was not a big deal. A servo motor will be inside this part that lifts the pen up and down. This will make it draw.

image

[Hour 2]
I have made the support for Y (back and front) as well. It was a quick process ig.

image

Notdragon 24 Notdragon 24 added to the journal ago

Making the support for X

So we need 2 supporters that holds the rod on the both side. So I designed this on blender. I kind of followed a yt tut for this one cause I forget how to make one like this.
We need 2 of these on the each side. (i just made on duplicate it to the other side lol)

Making the shell that moves (X and Y) P2

I have spent some more time finishing the top part and made the bottom part as well. It was kind of tricky to get the measurements correct (specially in blender but i luv blender)

(i removed the logo in the 1st case cause i already have to below and it kinda looks ugly)

Making the shell that moves (X and Y) P1

We are going to be making the shell design that moves in the XY. Like the metal rods will go in-between them and moves. I only made the top part and not fully completed either. Im going to be stopping for today.

Making the pen holder

To actually draw there needs to be a pen. So the pen holder is a need. This will hold the pen and drop when something has to be written (im not good at explaining something)

Those 3 holes looking thing will come in help later.
i kind of struggled with this design.

Making the mount for the Enclosure to the main body

I have designed the UNO Case. So to mount that to the main body we will have to make another small part to hold it. I have used this normal design where you can screw into the the case. (Im planning on gluing it so no holes in the case but if i wanted i`ll make a hole in case with the soldering iron)

image

Notdragon 24 Notdragon 24 added to the journal ago

Designing the first few parts

So now lets begin with designing the 3D Parts. From my calculation I'll be having more than 15+ parts to design. So first I have designed the case / enclosure for the Arduino UNO.

I have went with a clip-on style top bottom case. So I can open and Close them anytime I want. Also the front and back (with the arduino ports) are slideble so easy to assemble.

Calculating Size time :0

So as I have most of the things figured out. Next thing is building the frame. Its not easy as you hear it. Im planning on going with 3D printed parts for the most of the build. But before designing those 3D parts. So I had to-do some calculations to figure out the size. I took a lot of time to figure the measurements. Im still on hanging on cliff on some calculations. I'll hopefully figure some of the calculations while designing it.

Next Thing is to design the 3D parts from my calculations. Im not really a fan of Fusion 360. Im more of a blender person; but the sake of this project and make it simple I have to go with fusion 360. From my calculation I'll have to design more than 15 parts. And to print them it will take more than a day to print them.

making the schematics / circuit diagram

Even though I am not going to be designing a PCB for this project I am not going to be spending time on designing the circuit diagram for a long time. So i just created a rough image on how the UNO CNC sheild works.

Researching Proper Parts

Before building anything I have to do a research on what parts are needed. For this Im planning on using Arduino UNO as the brain. I know the ESP32 is better but for simplicity Im planning on going with the UNO.

Research & Kinematics Selection

Bismillah!,

This is my first ever project related to CNC. Which means I don't have any previous knowledge or experience with this projects. Before starting I had to research everything related to it. I learned a lot on YouTube , Reddit and other blog posts. I learned a a lot like Cartesian and CoreXY configurations. I have decided to go with Cantilevered Y-axis design.
