The Eye of Sauron

The Eye of Sauron I’m making at Hack Club is built from 3D‑printed parts wrapped around one of those AliExpress video spheres that can play looping animations. When it’s all assembled, the whole thing looks like a glowing eye I can put in my room.

Finished!!

I got everything set up for the Eye of Sauron including the Repo. I actually didn't think that I would get done this fast, but my past skills helped me a lot. What I feel like I can improve on this model is adding a separate base to the CAD. I would like it to flatten out and let it get wider on the bottom. I was under some restriction so that's what I have to make my base narrow.Screenshot 2026-03-13 153033Screenshot 2026-03-13 145000

Finished the CAD and BOM

The cading is finally finished and now I can get started on the github. The model I made doesn't look quite like the Eye of Sauron because of how my friend wanted it (check my entries below for context). He wanted me to save as much costs as I can. Regardless of that I think I made it work.Screenshot 2026-03-13 130502

Onshape problems and brainstorming

So,Screenshot 2026-03-11 185031
when I was going into this challenge, I didn't expect Sauron's eye to be so complicated. I thought it was just an eye on a pole. Now that I'm doing it, I'm finding little details that are just bugging me. I plan to keep this a tier 5 I think (the one that's only $25). Onshaping this is a real challenge.

Found Ball product and started onshaping

To start this project, all I'm really doing is searching a video ball thing that is under budget. For the 3d printing item, I won't need any help because one of my friends are supplying me. Furthermore, I began to work on the model. Onshaping was a bit rusty, but I was able to get everything down. This is the progress so far for it.Screenshot 2026-03-09 193438
